From the Heart of Iconic author Perumal Murugan on his short story ‘Kodithuni’ adapted as ‘Angammal’ Movie!
Stone bench films presents in association with njoy films and Firo movie station are all set to enthrall cinema lovers with a beautiful film titled ‘Angammal’. The film is produced by Karthikeyan S, Firoz Rahim and Anjoy Samuel.
Renowned author Perumal Murugan, whose short story “Kodithuni” has been transformed as the feature film “Angammal”, reflected thoughtfully on the adaptation. When asked about the writer’s involvement in the process of adapting his short story into full length feature film, he says, “The story is mine, yet my involvement concludes with the granting of adaptation rights. Thereafter, it becomes the director’s artistic prerogative to interpret and realise it. The cinematic version departs in several respects, notably in its climax and the portrayal of the female protagonist. The narrative, originally suited to a brief twenty-five-minute film, has been elegantly expanded into a full-length feature. The director has rendered it with remarkable grace and depth.”
Drawn from Perumal Murugan’s acclaimed short story Kodithuni, this cinematic reimagining unfolds with quiet intensity and emotional restraint. At its heart is Geetha Kailasam, whose performance anchors the film with rare authenticity, complemented by finely measured turns from Saran, Bharani, Mullaiyarasi, and Thendral Raghunathan.A joint production of NJOY Films and Firo Movie Station, the film’s visual and aural language bears the distinct signature of Anjoy Samuel’s meditative cinematography and Mohammed Maqbool Mansoor’s evocative music. Together, they shape a work that is as much a mood as it is a narrative.
